New Jersey VW Dealer Giving Away Three Cars For $1, But There’s A Catch

The average new vehicle loan soared to a record of $31,455 last summer, but three lucky customers at Toms River Volkswagen in New Jersey will have a chance to get a car for $1.

According to the dealership, they’re hosting a “one-time-only pre-owned sales event” where every vehicle on the lot will be marked down. Of the more than 100 vehicles in inventory, three will be marked down to just $1.

The gimmick doesn’t end there as the dealership will unlock the doors to every vehicle on the lot at 8 am on March 16th. Customers will then have to race to get into the driver’s seat of their desired vehicle. A manager will begin marking down prices at 10 am and if you’re lucky enough to be sitting in the driver’s seat of one of the vehicles marked down to $1, you’ll have a chance to buy it.

There’s no word on which vehicles will be marked down to $1, but a quick look at the dealership’s used inventory shows their least expensive vehicle is a 2004 Volkswagen Passat GLS TDI which costs $5,136 and has 154,894 miles (249,278 km) on it. The dealership also has other gems such as a 2002 Hyundai Accent GL with 183,979 miles (296,085 km) for $5,642.

Of course, there are also some desirable vehicles such as a 2017 Volkswagen Touareg Wolfsburg Edition, 2018 Honda Civic Coupe and 2013 Audi S4 Premium Plus. However, all these cars cost over $20,000 so it’s unlikely they’ll be the ones discounted to $1.

Unsurprisingly, the dealership is expecting a pretty big turnout.  As a result, they recommend people get there early as they’re expecting crowds to start lining up at 6 am.
