A cancer awareness and prevention campaign focusing on ‘early detection’ was organised by the ESOINDIA group, here.
The event was held in association with the Mother Teresa Women’s University and Rotary Club of Kodaikanal at Ativampatti.
The programme was inaugurated by S. M. Chandramohan, founder president, ESOINDIA and A. Suganthi, Registrar, Mother Teresa Women's University, Paul Mary Deborah, student counsellor at the University and Venkatesh, a volunteer.
The main focus was to generate awareness of early cancer warning systems. Emphasis was laid on ensuing early medical care as cancer can be easily treated in the early stages, said experts.
K. Poongothai, Academic Counsellor, ESOINDIA, spoke of the developments in cancer prevention, detection and palliative support systems.
Ms. Suganthi outlined the importance of early cancer awareness at school and college level so that children are aware and can communicate with confidence about the disease.
Dr. Chandramohan appreciated the students of the university for using innovative techniques including theatre, art, and music to spread the message.
The students touched upon the importance of prevention, the need to quit tobacco use and alcohol consumption. They also focused on eating healthy food and having an empathetic support system through the process of medication.
The importance of financial back up for healthcare as well as various government and private health insurance schemes were also explained.
Students from Mother Teresa Women's University, Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavans Gandhi Vidhyashram, Sankara Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Santham Matriculation Higher Secondary School, St. Peter’s International School and Kodaikanal Christian College took part in the programme.
