BENGALURU/MANGALURU / KARWAR: The decision to leave Udupi-Chikkamagaluru, Uttara Kannada and Tumakuru Lok Sabha seats to JD(S) has not gone down well with the Congress leaders of these constituencies. They have demanded the party high command to reconsider the decision.
Congress MP from Tumakuru Mudduhanumegowda and hundreds of his supporters met senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge in Bengaluru on Thursday and urged him to ensure the seat remains with the party.
“The Congress had taken a stand that none of the sitting MP will be disturbed. Then why am I being made a scapegoat?” Mudduhanumegowda reportedly asked Kharge. Party workers also threatened to go their own way.
Leaders of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru also rued the decision stating that it would make the election a cakewalk for the BJP. “We are disappointed by the decision to leave the seat to the JD(S) which has no base at all. It is disheartening to give away the seat once represented by Indira Gandhi to another party,” district Congress president DL Vijayakumar said.
