Venkaiah Naidu to attend VTU convocation on Monday

Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu will deliver the convocation address at Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in Belagavi on March 18.

Governor and Chancellor Vajubhai Vala will preside over the convocation function, while Minister for Higher Education G.T. Deve Gowda has been invited to it.

VTU will confer Honoris Causa-Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science on engineer and social worker B. Girish Bharadwaj who has constructed 137 low-cost and eco-friendly suspension bridges across rivers in India to help connect isolated hamlets and villages.

It will award 64,881 BE, 619 B.Arch, 4,425 MBA, 1,801 MCA, 2,859 M.Tech, 26 M.Arch and 33 M.Sc (Engineering) degrees besides 418 doctorates to research scholars.

VTU Vice-Chancellor Karisiddappa and Registrar Satish Annigeri will be present.

A two-day Annual Faculty Convention of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) will be held on VTU premises on March 19 and 20. The theme of the convention is “Technical education for smart society”.

It will have interactions between academia, industry and other related stakeholders. Over 1,000 delegates are expected to attend the convention.
