MADURAI: Directing the Tamil Nadu government to issue a fresh GO as the present GO issued for transfer of Pollachi sexual harassment case to CBI has revealed the identity of the victim, the Madurai bench of Madras high court on Friday recommended the state government to take action against officials who had revealed the identity of the victim.
A division bench of Justice N Kirubakaran and Justice S S Sundar issued the order while hearing a PIL filed by S Ilamuhil, a resident of Trichy, who sought a direction to prevent the circulation of videos and pictures of heinous crimes on social media.
When the counsel of the petitioner cited that the GO of the state government which transferred the Pollachi case to the CBI has revealed the name and the college in which the victim had studied, the judges orally observed the other victims would not come forward after the officials revealed the identity of a victim as they would have the fear of exposure.
The judges directed the centre and state government to prohibit the circulation of such videos similar to that of the Pollachi incident and suo motu impleaded the Internet Service Providers Association of India in the petition.
The judges transferred the case to the principal bench of the court in Chennai.
