NAGERCOIL: Various political parties in Tamil Nadu have joined hands to take on the ‘fascist’ Bharatiya Janata Party as the country’s secular fabric was under serious threat, leaders of the UPA constituents said in tbhe election rally organised here on Wednesday.

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko, who is likely to spearhead UPA’s electioneering in Tamil Nadu as its ‘star campaigner’, said the country’s secular fabric which was being smashed in the name of religion by the BJP, was facing serious threat as the ‘saffron party’ was aiming at creating ‘one culture, one religion and one party administration’ in India by unleashing terror.

While crushing secular forces, the sangh parivar groups were drawing pleasure by enacting the killing Mahatma Gandhi while glorifying Naturam Godse.

“You, by overwhelmingly supporting the secular forces should make (Congress president) Rahul Gandhi Prime Minister of the country to save the nation from fascist forces,” Mr. Vaiko appealed.

He came down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders for using the martyrs killed in Pulwama attack and the subsequent air raids on terror camps across Line of Control for its political mileage.

While CPI state secretary R. Mutharasan said the lies of Mr. Modi were getting exposed one by one with the election approaching fast, CPI (M) secretary K. Balakrishnan said the only objective of the UPA was to remove the BJP from power and strengthen secular forces in the country.

Dravida Kazhagam president K. Veeramani said the election should put an end to the fascist forces at the Centre and the State Government being governed by a group of ‘bonded labourers’.

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi president Thol. Thirmavalavan said the principled alliance formed by the government would register thumping victory over the fascist forces wrecking the secular fabric of the country.

M.H. Jawahirullah of Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, Khader Mohideen of Indian Union Muslim League, Pachchamuthu of India Jananayaga Katchi, Eswaran of Kongunaadu Makkal Desiya Katchi and TNCC president K.S. Alagiri also spoke.

A group of Congress cadres from Tirunelveli created flutter before party president Rahul Gandhi coming to the dais as they raised slogans in favour allotting Tirunelveli Lok Sahba segment to Congress.
