Citing a letter written by then Director of Enforcement Karnal Singh in May 2017 to CBI Director Alok Kumar Verma seeking a detailed investigation into a money laundering case in which YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and 73 others were accused, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday alleged that the Narendra Modi government had played it down as part of the BJP’s tacit understanding with the YSRCP.

The CBI had filed 11 charge-sheets against Mr. Jagan, his associates and companies before the designated CBI court in Hyderabad but the Modi government did not take up the cases involving multiple shell companies to a logical conclusion, he alleged. Mr. Naidu told the media here that Mr. Karnal Singh had said that in one of the charge-sheets, it came to light that Yaga Associates Private Limited, a front company of Mr. Jagan and operated by persons related to developer I. Syam Prasad Reddy, had received a quid pro quo arrangement of 11.10 acres at Kukatpally in Hyderabad having a market value of nearly ₹178 crore from the GOCL Corporation Limited, a Hinduja Group company. Copies of Mr. Singh’s letter were given to media persons.

It was for the benefit they had got from the Andhra Pradesh government in the form of permission to convert 100 acres from industrial to non-industrial use in a posh locality in Hyderabad in favour of the GOCL Corporation Limited and revival of the 1040 MW power plant of the Hinduja National Power Corporation Limited in Pedagantyada mandal of Visakhapatnam district.

However, the Telangana government which rushed to demolish a construction belonging to A.P DGP R.P. Thakur for allegedly encroaching a private land, in spite of a court order, did not reclaim the prime land usurped by the companies belonging to Mr. Jagan and others through fraudulent means, Mr. Naidu said.

‘Mega conspiracy’

Reiterating that it was all part of a 'mega conspiracy' hatched in New Delhi, Mr. Naidu demanded that Mr. Modi should explain why his government put those cases on the back-burner and what prompted Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to remain a mute spectator as the dubious companies and the persons behind them, including Mr. Jagan and Potluri Vara Prasad, who had just joined YSRCP, enjoyed undue gains. These cases of laundering and violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act were supposed to be dealt with sternly but were not acted upon as per law.
