Mumbai: Students are irked with the postponement of summer semester examinations by the Mumbai University (MU). Students claim this will prolong the final semester and clash with annual entrance tests and parallel examinations for engineering, Chartered Accountant (CA), Company Secretary (CS) and other courses. Due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the university postponed exminations to be conducted on April 22, 23, 24, 29 and 30.
Students claim the university has pushed the examinations which means it will prolong the final semester phase. Vikrant Pandit, a student, said, “Generally, the examinations are supposed to end by May. But now the examinations are being postponed and this will prolong the entire semester.”
In addition, students revealed they prepare for entrance tests like Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and CET (Common Entrance Test) for engineering, CA and other courses. These tests are held in May where students appear for the same once they finish their university examinations.
But now, students fear they will not have sufficient time to prepare for these tests. Prakriti Chadda, a student, said, “Our exams have been postponed and they might clash with the entrance tests. These tests are tough and are conducted once in every year. We may not have sufficient time to prepare for these tests.”
Authorities of the university claimed they will declare the new time-table soon. A senior officer of MU, said, “We are planning the new dates in a way to give sufficient time for students. But we cannot extend it further as we have to declare semester results soon.”
