As many as 13 anti-defacement squads were formed as part of implementing the election code of conduct in the district. There will be one squad for each of the 12 Assembly constituencies, and one for overall observation across the district.
There will be four officials in a squad, including a police officer.
The squads will have to ensure that hoardings, boards, banners, posters, flags and other display items of parties and people’s representatives highlighting their achievements are not posted on
government buildings and other public places.
If political parties do not remove such materials, the squad will remove them and the expenses will be included in the respective candidate’s account.
Liquor sale
Assistant Excise Commissioner V. Rajasing has been appointed district level nodal officer for preventing illegal liquor procurement and
distribution in view of the elections. The nodal officer will keep a watch over daily liquor sale and the sale of liquor in sensitive areas.
Special enforcement groups will be formed to prevent the flow of liquor from across the border.
Folk art
The Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO), who is also the nodal officer for Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP)
programme, has invited quotation from folk art groups to present the importance of voting through folk art forms in the taluk and Assembly
constituency level.
The groups should make presentations at least at four places in a constituency a day. Details can be had from the District Information Office here.
District Collector D. Balamurali said here on Thursday that heads of all government and aided schools, public sector units, nationalised and cooperative banks should submit the list of their employees to their respective village offices before Monday.
