Pollachi bus conductor arrested for rape

COIMBATORE: The Pollachi police on Thursday arrested a bus conductor for raping and cheating a 20-year-old Scheduled Caste woman.
The accused has been identified as D Balachandran, 37, a resident of Pollachi.
“The woman and the accused had been in a relationship for three years and as a result of which, the she became pregnant. When she informed him about her pregnancy, he convinced her to abort the fetus by taking abortion pills,” said an official investigating the case.
“Since then the victim has been requesting Balachandran to marry her. But he has been constantly declining her request as she belongs to a different community,” the official said.
When the victim decided to move on, the accused sought sexual favours from her. When she refused to entertain him, he threatened her of exposing their sexual relationship through social media, the official added.
After receiving the woman’s complaint, the Pollachi police registered a case under sections 417 (punishment for cheating), 376 (commits rape), 312 (causing miscarriage) of the Indian Penalty Code (IPC) and sections of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989 and arrested him.
He was remanded in judicial custody.
