According to the NFL Network, the Patriots are hosting Maurice Harris. According to a source, the Pats are also meeting with Bruce Ellington.

Harris is a 6-foot-3 receiver, who caught 28 passes for 304 yards last season for the Washington Redskins. The 26-year-old had a monster game in Week 9, hauling in 10 passes for 124 yards against the Atlanta Falcons. He started seven of 12 games played last year.

Harris came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He appeared in 10 games as a rookie, catching eight passes for 66 yards. In 2017, he played in six contests, registering four catches for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Harris was a restricted free agent, but the Redskins didn’t tender him an offer making him an unrestricted free agent. He’s also the cousin of Los Angeles Chargers Pro Bowl receiver Keenan Allen.

Ellington, 27, is 5-foot-9 and spent last season with the Houston Texans and Detroit Lions. In four games with the Lions, he caught 23 passes for 132 yards. A fourth-round pick in 2014, Ellington has also spent time with San Francisco and the New York Jets. His best season came in 2017 with Houston, catching 29 passes for 330 yards and two touchdowns.

Ellington is also an experienced kickoff and punt returner. He was the 49ers main returner for both kickoffs and punts in 2014 and 2015. He’s averaged 25.6 yards per kickoff in his career and 7.8 yards per punt returner.

The Patriots are in need of some receiver depth and both Harris and Ellington would give them that. They signed Phillip Dorsett to a 1-year deal late Wednesday night and tendered restricted free agent Josh Gordon earlier this week. Along with Julian Edelman, the Pats also have Braxton Berrios and Damoun Patterson on the roster.
