MNF names nominee for election

AIZAWL: The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) on Wednesday announced that C Lalrosanga, a former director general of Doordarshan, would be the party's official candidate for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram.
Chief minister and MNF president Zoramthanga, announcing the name of Lalrosanga, said MNF would not have alliance with any party and would contest the Lok Sabha polls alone.
Lalrosanga is a former Indian Broadcasting Programme Service (IBPS) officer and he retired as DG of Doordarshan.
Zoramthanga also announced that Zodintluanga, a former student leader, would be the party's candidate for the by-election to the Aizawl West-I seat, which would be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls.
The MNF president said the party would have no truck with BJP or any other political party and would contest the polls alone.
Meanwhile, BJP state unit president Prof John V Hluna announced that the saffron party would contest both the elections to the lone Lok Sabha seat and also the bypoll to the Aizawl West-I Assembly constituency.
The National People's Party (NPP), which is also a constituent of the North East Democratic Alliance, and the People's Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram (PRISM) party had also announced their intention to contest the polls without forming any alliance. "The opposition Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) and the Congress have decided to forge an electoral alliance for the parliamentary polls and also the assembly bypoll by fielding common candidates. PTI
