TNN | Mar 15, 2019, 04:44 ISTT’puram: The month-long football league, ‘District Super Division Football’, will kick-off on Friday. Organized by Thiruvananthapuram district football association, the tournament will be held at University Stadium, Central Stadium and Medical College Stadium.
The inaugural function of the football league will be held at University Stadium at 3.30pm on Friday. Creating a model for other football associations, the Thiruvananthapuram district football association will distribute jersey, boots and socks to 200 football trainees, who belong to financially backward families, free of cost.
The first match will be held between Kerala Police and SBI team. In a first, the organizers have instituted a cash prize of Rs 1,001 for Man of the Match.
“The league matches do not get due importance here, unlike in other states, as there are less number of viewers. The lack of appreciation affects the quality of the match. So, we decided to organize a one-month football mela,” said V Sivankutty, president of Thiruvananthapuram district football association.
In move to attract the viewers, the association has also announced to give a football to viewers, who predict the winner of the match. Also, a football kit worth Rs 25,000 awaits the viewers who predict the winner in the final match.
The association also launched a website, www.dfatvm.com with details of the tournament and information on various football clubs.
