Cape Town - South African opener Quinton de Kock has, for the second time in his career, equalled a unique Proteas record by scoring five ODI half-centuries in a row.  

De Kock first achieved the feat in 2017 when he passed 50 twice against Sri Lanka and then three times against New Zealand. 

With his knock of 51 in the fourth ODI against Sri Lanka in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday, the left-hander carded a half-century for the fifth successive innings dating back to his 83 in the final ODI against Pakistan in Cape Town in January. 

Only two other South Africans have scored five straight ODI half-centuries.

Jonty Rhodes did it in the 2000/01 season with one fifty against New Zealand and then four against Sri Lanka. 

Former Proteas captain Kepler Wessels, meanwhile, also carded five straight ODI fifties though his came for two different countries. 

Wessels made half-centuries in all of South Africa's first four ODIs after readmission in 1991/92, but his 57 for Australia against England in Birmingham all the way back in 1985 was the first of that sequence. 

Pakistan's Javed Miandad, meanwhile, holds the record for the most successive ODI half-centuries with nine. 

De Kock will join Mark Waugh, Mohammed Yousuf, Andrew Jones and Gordon Greenidge if he makes it six in a row in the fifth and final ODI against Sri Lanka in Cape Town on Saturday.
