The police on Thursday seized Rs 23 lakh cash from a car in West Godavari district during a search operation.

The car was on way to Gummuluru from Akividu. The police while conducting search operations ahead of the Lok Sabha election, found Rs 23 lakh in the car.

Upon inquiry, the persons in the car said that they recently bought some land and were going to pay the money to the other party.

Police told them that the cash was beyond the permissible limit as per the Model Code of Conduct norms, and seized the cash. A case was registered under relevant sections of law. Further probe is on.
