MUMBAI: One of two youths who allegedly kidnapped the employee of a Mulund businessman and killed him before robbing him of Rs 12 lakh, has been arrested. Mulund and Narpoli police in Bhiwandi arrested Dinesh Saroj (33),a resident of Sanjay Gandhi Nagar, Mulund. His accomplice, Sunil Yadav (27), is absconding.

Prasad Tiwari (37), a cash collector at Deepak Sanghvi’s plastic granule manufacturing unit in Mulund, is survived by his wife and aged parents, who reside at Pokharan Road, Thane.

“Tiwari, who used to collect Rs 5-8 lakh at weekends, went missing on March 6. His employer told us that he had collected around Rs 8 lakh,” said sub-inspector P M Bhalerao. Tiwari’s family, after searching for him, lodged a missing complaint with Mulund police on March 8.

In the meantime, Narpoli police found an unidentified decomposed body tied in the gunny bag on the outskirts of Bhiwandi. “The body did not have identification marks, so we sent photographs of it to Thane, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai police, to find out if there was any missing complaint,” said an officer. A constable of Mulund police said the body was similar to Tiwari’s.

Tiwari’s family identified him through his clothes and birthmarks. “As the deceased was from Mulund, we formed a joint team with Narpoli police and started a probe,” said deputy commissioner of police (zone VII) Akhilesh Singh.

Narpoli police said that with the help of the victim’s mobile, they detained Dinesh Saroj, who spilled the beans on Yadav. Saroj told police they lured the victim under the pretext of drinks, and after taking him to Dinesh’s house, strangled him and bundled his body in a gunny bag. They then took it in their tempo, and threw it in Bhiwandi, said senior inspector Malauji Shinde. Police said they are yet to recover the cash robbed from Tiwari.
