Top Prosecutor on Mueller\'s Team Reportedly Leaving DOJ

The top prosecutor on special counsel Robert Mueller's team is preparing  to leave the office  and the Justice Department, according to multiple outlets.

Two unnamed sources told NPR that Andrew Weissmann is departing to teach at New York University.

During his  decades-long career  with the DOJ, Weissmann most notably prosecuted a number of high-profile mafia cases in New York and later oversaw the Enron investigations.

As part of Mueller's team, Weissmann  led the cases  against Paul Manafort.

As a result of those two cases, the former Trump campaign chairman's facing  seven and a half years in prison  for conspiracy and fraud.

Weissmann's reported departure could signal that Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election is winding down.

Several outlets have been reporting that Mueller  will soon deliver  his findings to the attorney general.
