TN: DVAC registers cases against Anganwadi officials after raid

SALEM: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) sleuths registered cases against Anganwadi officials in Salem city on Wednesday night. The DVAC officials conducted surprise raid at the Anganwadi centre at Annadhanapatty, here on Wednesday night around 9pm. During the raid the DVAC sleuths seized Rs 50,000 unaccounted money from the office.
A team of DVAC sleuths led by ADSP Chandramouli, Inspector Boopathirajan, Thangamani entered the Anganwadi centre after they got the tip-off about bribing.
It is learnt that, block project officer Balambigai directed her subordinates to give Rs 3,000 every month from each Anganwadi centre. A total of 45 Anganwadi centres have been functioning in Annadhanapatty area and of them, 25 are functioning in the rented buildings.
“Balambigai will get bribe money of Rs 3,000 from each centre when they purchase vegetables and rental amount for the centres,” said a DVAC official, on condition of anonymity. He also said that, they conducted the surprise raid followed by this allegation.
The officials seized Rs 50,450 unaccounted money from three women including Balambigai, Anganwadi centre employees Noorjahan and Shanthi. “We have registered cases against all the three women and initiated inquiry,” the official said, adding that, they will be arrested once they found guilty.
