14 Mar 2019 by Jenni Reid

El Al has launched a new menu by chef Shahaf Shabtay for business class passengers departing Israel.

Starter options include grilled artichoke with chimichurri and Romanian-style zucchini. The main menu offers three-hour asado, spring chicken with bulgar in red-wine sauce, Tilapia fish, fish filet kadaif and ‘cooky bag’ spring chicken (chicken cooked in a bag).

Desserts are a chocolate and hazel nut tartlet or pistachio caramel crunch brownie and pistachio macaroon.

The airline only stocks Israeli wines, which include Blanc de Blancs Yarden Golan Heights Winery 2010, Sauvignon Blanc Galil Mountains 2017 and a Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve ‘Kerem Lebanon’ Recanati Winery 2016.

El Al’s Vice President Customers and Service Amir Rogovski said: “The inauguration of the Business Class menu is part of the strategic process intended to improve both service and product on our flights. The new menus were planned to provide our passengers with a diverse international culinary experience of the highest caliber.”

The airline also said a new “culinary strategy” would improve dishes across all classes, but did not give further details.
