Man dies after falling from the tray of moving ute in Campbellfield

A man has died after he fell from the tray of a moving ute in Melbourne's north.

The man was sitting on the tray cover of the white Commodore ute which was travelling down Cambridge Way in Campbellfield on Sunday evening when he fell from the moving vehicle.

The 20-year-old from Campbellfield was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He died in hospital on Wednesday night.

The driver, a 19-year-old man from Broadmeadows, was arrested on Sunday but later released pending enquiries.

The incident and the exact circumstances surrounding the fall is being investigated by Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives.

It takes the road toll for this year 66, compared to 47 last year.

On Tuesday, a male motorcyclist came off his bike on Natimuk-Frances Road in Goroke.

The man died at the scene.

On Monday, a male driver travelling on the Sunraysia Highway in Donald died after his car collided with another vehicle. The driver of the second car was airlifted to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
