PANAJI: BJP will declare its candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats and three assembly seats – Mandrem, Shiroda and Mapusa, on Monday or Tuesday. BJP state president Vinay Tendulkar told TOI that central election committee of the party has convened a meeting on March 18 to finalise the candidates and announce the names officially. BJP has decided that the tickets for Mandrem and Shiroda bypolls will not go to anyone else other than Dayanand Sopte and Subhash Shirodkar respectively. Sopte and Shirodkar had quit the Congress and joined BJP on October 16, 2018.

BJP has also decided to renominate Ayush minister Shripad Naik for the fifth time in North Goa and Narendra Sawaikar for South Goa. The only seat, the BJP is unclear about its candidate is Mapusa which fell vacant last month after the demise of former deputy CM Francis D’Souza. tnn
