Forget blouses, Rekha shows us how to wear saris over full-length kurtas

At the screening of Photograph, Rekha proved that one can wear a sari with a kurta. Check out how she worked the look now.

Rekha

Rekha’s love for Indian ethnic ensembles isn’t a secret. Yesterday, while attending the screening of Photograph, the icon showed us a new way of wearing saris, one of her favourite Indian staples, in an all-new manner. Instead of picking one of her signature Kanjeevaram saris, the icon opted for an earthy, unembellished version of the six yard drape, which she wore over an ivory silk kurta instead of the usual sari blouse. Keeping the ethnic theme going, she accessorised her look with statement gold earrings and bangles, which matched the shade of her sari. The screening was also attended by the likes of Sanya Malhotra, Vidya Balan, Richa Chadha, Dino Morea, Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi. Headed for a small family do? Take style lessons from Rekha and work a silk kurta with a sari for the evening do.

Rekha’s lessons on working an ivory kurta set for a casual outing

Rekha’s wardrobe is full of timeless Kanjeevaram saris. But yesterday, the actor ditched her classic look for something unexpected. Though her sari featured zero embroidery, the full-sleeved kurta she wore under it was embroidered with silver sequins which instantly spruced up her look. An ivory potli bag and a pair of gold heels added finishing touches to her ensemble. Beauty wise, Rekha went bold with a pop of highlighter and a strong red lip.

While the actor worked this unexpected combination for a movie screening, once can easily make it work at a family dinner or even a puja. Wondering where to buy a kurta similar to Rekha’s? Check out our edit below.
