The 72-hour deadline has lapsed for political parties and their cadres for removing political messages and party symbols on display in public buildings and places, and private buildings. In its wake, the district administration has warned violating political parties of action under the Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1959.

District Collector and District Election Officer S.Prabhakar has warned of invoking the Open Place disfigurement Act for non-removal of political symbols, flags from public and private buildings. Earlier, the revenue officials sealed the DMK MLA’s office at Vepanapalli for non-removal of the party flag, in violation of the model code of conduct.

According to the district administration, government buildings, flyovers, public places, and private buildings shall be rid of banners, flags, posters, and paintings of political parties.

The Collector warned that criminal action would be initiated against political parties and private persons alike for not removing the political messages in any form.
