State-owned telecom firm Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has failed to pay the February salaries to around 1.76 lakh employees due to its financial crisis.

This is the first time BSNL has defaulted in payment of its monthly salaries.

The fully government-owned corporation is undergoing a major cash crunch due to the price war with private companies. The salary for the month of February has been delayed by 10 days.

Amid the tensions is a video that is going viral.

A woman in the video is crying. Reason? She says she is unable to run her house because BSNL has failed to pay the February salaries to its employees.

As she cries, the woman says she's unable to feed her little children.

According to a The Quint report, the woman's name is Binu Pandey. Pandey told The Quint that she is a "single mother" and more often than not it's a "hand-to-mouth situation".

"To me, my salary is so important that if it is delayed by even two days, my calculations fall apart," Pandey told The Quint.

Pandey's crisis is not even allowing her to pay for basic services.

According to Pandey, paying for an autorickshaw ride or for the milk for the house is also becoming hard to keep up with. She has been borrowing money from people.

"My salary [is] as much as that of a general peon. If the salary is enough to save something after expenses, that would be great, but that is not the case. Within the first week, my salary account is emptied. I'm always waiting for 10 days before my salary is due," Pandey told The Quint.

The company usually pays its employees on the last working day of the month or the first working day of the next but this time BSNL has defaulted in payment of its monthly salaries. While BSNL continues its enviable market share, such a crisis has befallen the operator for the first time.
