John Cena’s Ford GT Saga Continues As Mecum Withdraws It From May Auction

In yet another episode of John Cena’s former Ford GT, Mecum Auctions announced that they won’t be offering it in their May event after all.

Last time we checked, the auction house listed Cena’s Ford GT for its upcoming Indianapolis sales event in a couple of months.

At the time, we reported that Ford’s supercar was going to find its fifth owner in a little over 18 months if it sold at the auction. However, the car has been pulled from the event, Jalopnik reports. Speaking to the outlet, a spokesperson from Mecum confirmed the consignment had been removed, but failed to reveal the reasons behind this decision.

What was particularly odd about seeing the Ford GT listed by Mecum Auctions in February was the fact that the previous month, the auction house had reached a settlement with Ford that barred it from selling any GTs within the first two years of their existence. Cena took delivery of his supercar on September 23, 2017.

Of course, it was technically used when initially listed by Mecum, but the settlement specified that Mecum couldn’t sell any GTs, even if they were no longer owned by the original buyer, without first getting the Blue Oval’s approval.

Less than one month after taking delivery of the car in September 2017, Cena famously broke his sales agreement with Ford by selling it to a 78-year-old Californian farmer. That farmer owned it for roughly eight months before parting ways with it at a Russo and Steele auction in August 2018. The car was sold for $1.54 million and then auctioned off once again just two months later for $1.32 million.
