TN: Minor among 2 girls goes missing in Salem district

SALEM: Two girls, including a minor, have gone missing in two different locations in Tamil Nadu's Salem district on Wednesday. The concerned police registered cases and launched the search for them.


According to Suramangalam police, a 15-year-old girl Roja (name changed) was studying in Class 10 in a private school in the Three Roads area in Salem city. She went to school on March 9 and did not return to her house after that.


Her parents searched for her in her friends' and their relatives' houses in various places. Finally, they lodged the complaint with Suramangalam police based on which they registered a case and initiated the investigation. During the inquiry, they came to know that S Sukumar, 22, of Reddiyur kidnapped the girl with an intention to marry her. “Though Sukumar took the girl with her consent, it will be treated as kidnap as the girl is a minor,” the police said. They registered a case and launched the search for the duo.


Similarly, Shalini, 20 (name changed), of Vattakkadu village near Omalur, went to a private college on February 28 in which she was studying B.Sc., second year. “She did not return to her house after that,” said an official from All Women police station in Suramangalam.


Shalini’s parents launched the search for her and finally lodged the complaint with All Women Police station in Suramangalam. The police registered the case and launched the search for the girl. “We came to know that, she eloped with P Chinraj, 25, of Dhadhagapatty and we have launched the search for the duo,” the police added.
