NEW DELHI: The S&P BSE Telecom index was down in Wednesday's afternoon session with most of its components trading in the red.

Shares of Reliance Communications (down 4.88 per cent), Vindhya Telelinks (down 2.78 per cent), Bharti Airtel (down 2.41 per cent)and GTL (down 2.37 per cent) were the top losers in the index.

Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (down 1.99 per cent), GTL Infrastructure (down 1.96 per cent), Tejas Networks (down 1.91 per cent)and Tata Communications (down 1.89 per cent) too were trading with losses.

The S&P BSE Telecom index was trading 1.69 per cent down at 1064.40 around 02:04 pm.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 35.65 points at 11,336.85 while the BSE Sensex was up 210.5 points at 37,746.16.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 19 were trading in the green, while 30 were in the red.

Shares of Suzlon Energy, Infibeam Avenues, Reliance Communications, South Indian Bank, YES Bank, Reliance Power, JP Associates, CG Power, IndusInd Bank, Vodafone Idea, PNB, IDBI Bank, Bajaj Corp, SAIL, DHFL and HDIL were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
