There are many young voters who have still not enrolled themselves in the electoral list in Mysuru district. And there is a chance for them to do so and cast their vote during the ensuring Lok Sabha elections.
A total of 36,163 youngsters got their names enrolled during the recent revision.
Realising that many youngsters have been left out during the revision, the authorities, as a part of Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), will soon be visiting colleges across the district and encourage the students to get their names enrolled for getting an opportunity to become first-time voters.
VLA clubs in colleges
Mysuru Zilla Panchayat CEO Jyothi, who is overseeing SVEEP activities in the district, said 1,445 Voter Literacy Awareness (VLA) clubs had been constituted in colleges and their volunteers will be conducting awareness campaigns on voting rights and voting. “The youth can still get their names enrolled since addition had been kept open. We want more people to participate in the democratic exercise,” she said.
Meanwhile, Police Commissioner K.T. Balakrishna said the police have identified areas that are vulnerable for untoward incidents during the elections in the city and added that confidence building activities will be taken up in those places in the coming days.
