AASU plans 'poll bar' on its activists
TNN | Mar 13, 2019, 10:01 ISTGUWAHATI: The powerful All Assam Students' Union (Aasu), which has nurtured some of the most influential political leaders of Assam, is considering imposing a six-month cooling period for its members before they can join any political party. If implemented, the proposal is likely to clip the wings of those who are planning a foray into active politics this poll season.
Aasu, which spearheaded the anti-foreigners' protests in the 1980s, has found finds itself at the receiving end after many of its leaders deviated from its the core principles of the student body after becoming political leaders.
