CHENNAI: A 30-year-old man and his friends on Tuesday barged into the house in Sriperumbudur where his wife and her partner were living and hacked the man to death.
The deceased Ganapathy, 36, is related to the attacker Balaji, 30, of Manimangalam. Ganapathy and Balaji’s wife Vanitha, 25, were in a relationship. Ganapathy frequented Balaji’s house when he was away.
The two continued their affair despite Balaji becoming aware of it. Balaji asked Vanitha to sever ties with Ganapathy.
Last week, Vanitha disappeared from her house in Manimangalam, deserting Balaji and their child. Balaji was later told that Ganapathy was also missing.
An enraged Balaji then devised a plan to eliminate Ganapathy, police said.
He and his friends launched a search for the couple and traced them to a house in Kundumedu village near Sriperumbudur. The gang holed up near the house on Monday night to confirm that both Ganapathy and Vanitha were staying there. They stormed into the house early on Tuesday. Spotting them with deadly weapons, Ganapathy tried to escape but was cornered by other assailants who were waiting outside the house. The gang hacked Ganapathy to death.
Vanitha was also injured when she tried to help Ganapathy. Hearing Vanitha’s cries, neighbours took the couple to the government hospital in Sriperumbudur, where doctors declared Balaji dead on arrival.
Based on Vanitha’s complaint, the Sriperumbudur police registered a murder case and have launched a hunt for the absconding Balaji and his friends. Further investigations are on.
