With election process set rolling and filing of nominations for the Lok Sabha election to begin from March 19, officials began marking the 100 metre line near the offices of the Returning Officers on Wednesday.
White markings were done near the Collectorate, which is the District Electoral Office that allows only five persons, including the candidate, to enter the Returning Officer’s room for filing nominations. Also, all vehicles accompanying the candidate will be stopped before the 100-metre mark and no campaigning will be allowed inside the line, said the officials.
Media centre
A media centre to monitor the advertisements made by political parties and their candidates started functioning at the Collectorate. Four teams were formed to monitor the centre round-the-clock. Officials said that advertisements telecast by candidates in local channels will be monitored and recorded and a report will be given to the general observers, who are to be appointed soon.
Complaints regarding elections can be taken up with the election control room at the toll free number 18004250672 that functions round-the-clock.
Officials said that the complaints will immediately be registered and forwarded to the officials concerned for necessary action.
Superintendent of Police S. Sakthi Ganesan said that 2,100 police personnel will be on duty for the elections in the district.
He added that retired police personnel, ex-armymen, retired forest department personnel and others will also be selected for the duty.
Meanwhile, election officials have, so far, removed 1,413 wall writings, posters, banners and other items from public property, and 195 items from private property in the district.
