Truck driver killed in Federal Highway crash
A man driving a Canberra trucking company vehicle has died after his truck rolled on the Federal Highway on Wednesday morning.
The semitrailer was travelling in the northbound lane at about 5.40am, near Thornford Road, when it left the road and crashed.
The vehicle careered up a slight embankment beside the highway and travelled for about 100 metres before landing on its driver side in a paddock, police said.
Chief Inspector John Sheehan said the male driver died at the scene.
There were no witnesses to the accident, but a passing motorist noticed the Kenworth truck in the paddock beside the highway and notified emergency services.
Chief Inspector Sheehan said the driver was believed to have left Canberra before 5am.
Police Rescue, NSW Ambulance, NSW Fire and Rescue and Roads and Maritime Service responded to the crash and closed part of the highway's northbound land.
A forensic team from Queanbeyan attended and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
