Rajkot: 12 held in five days for playing PUBG

Arrest

Representational purpose

The Rajkot police has arrested 12 persons from different parts of the city for violating a notification on banning the popular video game PUBG (PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds). The game was banned after it was blamed for increasing violence among children addicted to it.

The 12 youth were aged between 19 and 25 years, and were arrested from Junagadh, Nana Mava Road, Vaswani Road, Atmiya College Road and Jagannath Chowk areas.

"The accused were arrested and their mobiles were seized. Most of them were held while our teams were out on patrolling. We even got calls from some people tipping us off about these youngsters playing the game," said Manoj Agrawal, police commissioner of Rajkot.

The notification was issued on March 7 by the Rajkot police commissioner, and a ban was imposed between March 9 and April 30 in the city. Anybody caught playing the game would be liable to action under sections 144 and 37(3).
