So you know how the mid-engine C8 Corvette is being delayed because of wiring issues? Well, that might not be the real reason. Or it might only be part of the reason.

Hagerty reports that the upcoming mid-engine Vette is so powerful that it’s tearing itself in two!

OK, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but not by much. Hagerty says that there’s an issue with the car’s aluminum spaceframe. Apply the rumored 900-1,000 hp to the car’s chassis from the twin-turbo V8 and things get stressed.

Reportedly, there’s enough twist in the chassis that it was shattering the glass of the rear hatch. Whoops.

The report says that the electrical headaches from switching the car to an entirely new architecture and the flexible flyer frame aren’t the only problems. With a car this powerful and quick, there’s some sort of dispute between designers and engineers. But they aren’t saying if it’s a visibility issue, ergonomic fault, or cockpit design.

Some critics have even speculated that this most current delay was a planned leak of information from GM to boost interest in a new supercar that might be “too powerful” for its own good.

So when can we finally see the car? At this point, everything’s just a guess. Hagerty is guessing the National Corvette Museum’s 25th birthday in August might be an ideal time. We think any time is great because we really just want to see this car at this point.
