With the election model code of conduct in force, Visakhapatnam Rural Police have set up 20 check-posts in the district limits as a part of security measures. A few of those are in areas vulnerable to Left Wing Extremists (LWE) activities.
“The check-posts manned by adequate police personnel will function round the clock to curb illegal activities including transport of unaccounted cash, liquor and other violations of the model code of conduct. The check-posts will remain until the counting of votes,” Rural SP Attada Babujee said here on Tuesday.
On March 10, Collector K. Bhaskar convened a regional coordination meet with his East Godavari counterpart Kartikeya Misra and Mr. Attada Babujee and discussed the setting up of check-posts. Moreover, after the Vijayawada Police making seizure of unaccounted cash worth ₹ 91 lakh, the police officials in the State are on their toes.
The district will have 4,058 polling stations. Of the 2,207 in the district limits. Out of the 2,207 polling stations, 1,203 stations are said to be problematic, including LWE movement.
