HYDERABAD: Telangana Jana Samithi will contest four Lok Sabha constituencies in Telangana. The party decided to fight alone in the elections in the four constituencies and it will extend support to Congress in the remaining parliamentary constituencies. There are 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in Telangana.

The core committee and also the state committee of the TJS held a series of meetings over the past 10 days and decided to field candidates from Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Malkajgiri. The fourth seat will be announced within a day or two. The decision to go alone in the four constituencies was taken to send a clear message to the electorate that TJS is an independent political party and was on its way to strengthening the party from grass root levels in the State.

A decision is yet to be taken whether TJS founder-president M Kodandaram will enter electoral fray. "We have formed three committees for the Lok Sabha elections including the political affairs committee, election and monitoring committees. The members of these committees along with core committee counterparts will decide whether I should be contesting and from which constituency. The candidates for four constituencies will be announced shortly," Kodandaram told TOI.

The TJS has also decided to extend support to the Congress and its candidates in remaining constituencies in Telangana. "Though TJS, Congress, TDP and CPI contested the 2018-Assembly elections under the alliance of peoples' Front (Praja Kutami), no talks were held by any of the alliance parties to continue the alliance even in the Lok sabha polls. Also, we (TJS) decided to contest four Lok Sabha seats wherein we have a strong cadre. We have district and mandal committees in place in these constituencies," Kodandaram said.

Though TJS will extend support to the Congress candidates in 13 Lok Sabha seats, Kodandaram made it clear that it will be a serious contest in 4 Lok Sabha seats by TJS and by no means a friendly-contest with the Congress or any other party. "The TJS will have it manifesto comprising the issues highlighted in Reclaiming Republic and the manifesto issued for the Assembly. A comprehensive manifesto to restore democracy, institutions such as CBI, Enforcement Directorate, RBI, Election Commission of India, would be taken to the door steps of the people extensively," TJS vice-president PL Vishveshwar Rao said.

The TJS along with leaders of like-minded parties is also taking up a two-day "yatra" of tribal areas from March 16 to understand the problems being faced by the tribals due to government policies and February 13 Supreme Court verdict. An action plan to save the rights of tribals on forest land would be prepared by the TJS.
