Police alleged the driver of the Landcruiser - which ended up on its roof - fled the scene but was followed by witnesses who called triple zero.

Images of the horror crash show a vehicle flipped on its roof while empty beer boxes can be seen scattered around the car.

Knodler was arrested nearby shortly afterwards and returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.166 - more than three times the legal limit, police alleged.

'A check revealed the man has never held a NSW driver's licence,' NSW Police alleged in a statement on Wednesday.

The Landcruiser was allegedly reported stolen from outside a home in Monterey about 2.40am on Monday.
