The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) wants to expedite the trial of the Sheena Bora murder case. The prosecution on Wednesday pleaded the court to conduct the trial on a day-to-day basis.

The special prosecutor on Wednesday made legal submissions of Peter Mukerjea’s bail plea.

Earlier, Mukerjea had cited anticipated delay in the trial as grounds to grant him bail. In response to this, the prosecution pleaded that they want the trial to be conducted on a day-to-day basis. The court had asked the agency how long it would take to finish the trial in the case. The prosecution responded that they cannot give a time frame within which the trial can be completed. The agency, however, claimed that they had moved a plea to expedite the trial as well, which is yet to be decided by the CBI court.

Meanwhile, accused-turned-approver Shyamwar Rai, Indrani Mukerjea’s driver, was produced before the special CBI court after he had written seeking parole. Rai was later produced before the court.

This is the third attempt by Rai to be let out of jail and be with his family.

In his handwritten plea to the court on February 22, he had claimed that his mother is very ill and there is no one in his village to look after her.

Rai further claims that his daughter is in a state of shock after his arrest and she is unable to focus on her studies.

He has pleaded that he may be allowed to come out on ‘parole’ to look after his mother and also his daughter.

When produced before the court, Rai pleaded the court to expedite hearing on his plea as he wants to come out and see his family.

The court has now asked the prosecution to file a reply on Rai’s plea by next hearing.
