With elections just around the corner, political parties are roping in B-town celebrities for the elections. Whether it be Congress or BJP both trying to rope in as much Bollywood celebrities in their fold. After Isha Koppikar and Moushumi Chatterjee joining BJP, the party is working towards roping in Bollywood actor Akshaye Khanna for Punjab’s Gurdaspur seat.
According to Indian Express, The BJP has short shortlisted multiple names for three Lok Sabha seats in Punjab – Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Hoshiarpur. Hardip Puri being among those considered for Amritsar and Bollywood star Akshaye Khanna in the panel of names for Gurdaspur. The BJP is contesting elections in Punjab with an alliance of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). BJP is also considering advocate H S Phoolka, who recently quit Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), if he would be willing to contest for the Amritsar seat.
The BJP is trying to put an aggressive front and that’s the reason the party is considering fielding either Kavita Khanna, the wife of late Vinod Khanna who was four-time Gurdaspur MP, or his son, Akshaye Khanna. A local BJP leader in Gurdaspur told the leading daily, “Vinod Khanna has tremendous goodwill in the Gurdaspur constituency and even the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, had referred to him extensively during his Gurdaspur rally in February. The party feels that if Kavita Khanna has no objections then Akshaye would bring the Bollywood charm as well his father’s memories to good effect and prove to be a tough match for sitting MP Sunil Jakhar.”
