Criminal held with firearm in Pune

PUNE: Mundhwa police on Monday arrested a criminal on the police records and seized a country-made pistol and two cartridges worth Rs 25,400.

The police identified the suspect as Irphan Gulab Shaikh (27) of Shastrinagar, Ambernath (West), Thane. Mundhwa police team led by senior inspector Sampat Bhosale has made the arrest.

Mundhwa police constable Nilesh Jagtap got a tip-off that a criminal on the police records who has cases with the Ambernath police, was at Mundhwagaon. “We sent our team there and took the suspect Shaikh into custody,” said an officer from the Mundhwa police.


The officer said that the police have recovered a country-made pistol and two cartridges from Shaikh.”We have registered an offence against Shaikh under the relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act,” the officer said.


The probe also revealed that the suspect Shaikh has as many as 18 cases including dacoity, thefts, body offence and rioting against with the Ambernath police. “He was also externed and booked under MPDA by Ambernath police,” the officer said.


The officer said that Shaikh is currently wanted in the three cases registered against him with the Ambernath police.


Sub-inspector of the Mundhwa police Amol Gawli is investigating the case.
