The JNU’s Special Centre for Disaster Research is organising a three-day symposium on artificial intelligence in governance and disaster management.
On Day Two of the event on Tuesday, a session was organised on futuristic techniques in disaster management and national security. It highlighted the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning as an important resource, which can help in evacuation and disseminating relief amidst chaos and destruction caused by a disaster.
Positives of technology
Army veterans, who attended the conference, highlighted how the use of technology can help in early warning and better prediction of disasters in the era of climate change. The participants deliberated on the use of AI when communication is disrupted in post-disaster scenario.
“The usage of drones and robots for relief distribution could help save manpower and help Army as first responders in situation of a disaster. However, the importance of building community resilience could not be ignored even in the age of technology advancement,” said chairperson of Special Centre for Disaster Research Amita Singh.
The event was held in collaboration with NITI Aayog, NDMA, NIDM, ICSSR, Skymet Weather and Springer Nature.
