SHAHJAHANPUR: A 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her younger brother-in-law in a village under Kalaan block of Shahjahanpur district on Monday.
According to police, as the woman’s husband had gone out of the village for some work on Monday, the accused, who lives in a separate portion of the house, forcibly barged into her room in the midnight and raped her.
He also threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone, said police.
However, when her husband returned on Tuesday morning, she narrated her ordeal to him, following which the husband lodged a complaint against his younger brother, said police.
Station house officer (SHO) of Kalaan police station Harendra Singh Tomar said, “Following the complaint of the husband, his 19-year-old brother was arrested and booked under sections 376 (rape) and 452 (house tresspass with intent to assault) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on Tuesday. We have recorded the statement of the rape survivor and her husband. The woman was sent for a medical examination, and the report is awaited.”
“The accused was handed over to police by the family. After taking his custody, we presented him before the city magistrate, who sent him to Shahjahanpur district jail. A chargesheet will be filed once the investigation is completed.”
