Vietnam war veteran hit in face and robbed on the Sunshine Coast
A Vietnam war veteran and his wife have vowed to sell their Queensland home after they were woken up to four intruders wearing balaclavas and armed with a crowbar robbing their house.
The 69-year-old woman and 76-year-old man, who say they are now too scared sleep at home, were forced to sit on a sofa while a group of men searched their Springburn Drive residence at Glasshouse Mountains about 11.30pm on Sunday.
One of the men struck Vietnam veteran Roger Garner in the face before they fled the house with jewellery, mobile phones and a purse, police said.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics.
Mr Garner said he and his wife were stressed and seeking counselling for trauma over the incident, feeling too frightened to return home.
"(They said) 'keep your heads down, don't look' and they were swearing," he said.
"(They were) shining a very bright torch in our face, waving a crowbar at us and wanted to know where our dole was, where our safe was, where our jewellery were, 'where's your wallet'.
"The majority of the robberies are sneak in and sneak out but this is completely different and I don't want anyone else to go through what we've been through either.
"I just want to catch these mongrels."
Mr Garner said the thieves appeared to know the layout of the house and were asking for a safe, which had been stolen nine years ago while they were not home but never replaced.
"They kept asking where the safe was ... only because I said to them you've got enough, leave and so they just punched me and then they left," he said.
Mr Garner said his war medals had also been stolen.
The couple had just installed security cameras six weeks ago.
The first man was wearing shorts, a hoodie, socks with thongs and gloves while carrying a crowbar.
The second man was wearing long pants with a white long-sleeved jumper, dark sneakers, a cap and gloves.
The third man had brown hair and he was wearing white shorts, a white T-shirt, sneakers and a cap.
The fourth man had a shaved head and was about 180 centimetres tall with a slim build.
He was wearing long dark pants, a white T-shirt and sneakers and he was carrying a large torch.
All four were described as Caucasian.
Detectives were appealing for anyone with information to call Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
