Ujjain: Strike of labourers has landed farmers in trouble as the grain merchants stopped purchasing of crops. The farmers have been forced to stay at mandi premises for the last two days. The irked farmer held traffic on Agar road to protest against the Chimanganj Krishi Upaj mandi management. Mandi committee secretary Rajesh Goyal appealed the famers not to bring their crops to the mandi premises till the next information.
Loaders strike paralysed mandi’s function since last two days. According to sources ADM GS Dabar, joint director mandi CS Vashishtha, and other administrative officials made futile attempts to resolve the matter with loaders’ union. The loaders demanded loading charges at the rate of Rs 7 per sack of 50 Kg while the merchants opposed their demand. Mandi committee secretary Rajesh Goyal talking to Free Press told that, a state level meeting would be held on Wednesday and according to outcomes of the meeting the farmers will be informed to bring their crops to the mandi premises for sale.
According to Goyal on Tuesday over 500 trolleys laden with crops reached the mandi but due to strike their crops could not be unloaded. The farmers protested for not unloading their crops and blocked the road which was later cleared by the police officials.
