In the last two days, the civic body has removed more than 14,000 political messages. After implementation of the model code of conduct, that came into effect ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has swung into action. In the last two days, they have removed many political posters, banners, wall posters, writings, and flags from the streets under their jurisdiction.
In the last two days, seven teams of the estate department has been in action and removing the political messages as per the guidelines of the Election Commission. The team has collectively removed 14,512 defacement material. The removal includes 10,746 graffiti and writings, 600 posters, 860 banners, and 2,306 miscellaneous material.
The highest number of messages and posters were removed from the west zone – 5,251, followed by central zone (3,472), east zone (2,078), north zone (1,448), and 579 from the south zone. The lowest number of political signage posters were removed from the south-west zone which was 362. The posters were removed under the defacement of Property Act. It is to be noted that political leaders have returned their vehicles to the central office of the civic body. These vehicles were earlier given to them to make commute hassle-free.
