BENGALURU: Firmly standing by his son Nikhil, who’s set to make his political debut contesting from Mandya Lok Sabha constituency, Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy said on Tuesday that attempts to paint his son an “outsider” will not cut ice with voters, especially in rural areas of the Vokkaligadominant constituency.

Hurt and furious by unstinted social-media campaigns against his son, the CM trained guns on three state BJP leaders — BS Yeddyurappa, DV Sadananda Gowda and Shobha Karandlaje — who have left their home base to contest from other parts of the state.

After speaking to his father HD Deve Gowda, the CM said: “The people of Mandya know my family for years, and we enjoy ties with them which are never ever misused. Mandya people — and not those on social media — will decide the winner in the elections. A decision has been taken (of asking Nikhil to contest from Mandya segment) and we will go before the people.”
