The Election Commission has directed Facebook to remove two posters carrying Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman’s photograph, shared by BJP leader and Delhi legislator O.P. Sharma on the social media platform.
The EC has taken the action based a complaint received through cVIGIL mobile application.
The Commission has already reminded the political parties of a 2013 advisory, through which it had asked them to desist from using photographs of defence personnel or any events associated with them for political propaganda.
With the announcement of Lok Sabha election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct came into effect on Sunday. The political parties, their candidates and cadres are required to abide by the Code and not indulge in any electoral offence or malpractice.
