That's the additional monthly price Verizon unlimited data subscribers will have to pay to get 5G service.

That's short for the fifth generation wireless network, offering blazingly fast speeds that are up to 100 times faster than the current 4G networks.

The telecom carrier wouldn't publicly disclose any estimates of its 5G speeds, but a spokesman said "this is full-on 5G, not 5G lite." That's a veiled reference to phones by rival AT&T' sporting "5G E" that operated on 4G networks.

And there have been some concerns about how much 5G is going to cost consumers overall." Verizon said its customers will have to use a Motorola Z3 mobile phone and a device called 5G moto mod to connect to the network.

The device will cost $50 for those who preorder it.

5G service will be free for the first three months.

Service begins April 11 in Chicago and Minneapolis.

Verizon will later launch service in more than 30 cities this year.

Rivals AT&T and Sprint plan to release their 5G smartphones with Samsung Electronics later this year.
