UPSC Civil Services 2019:  Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will provide 10% reservation to the economically weaker section (EWS) category in the coming civil services exam this year. The commission has asked the candidates to obtain their EWS certificate by August 1, 2019.

The reservation quota will be applied only to those candidates who opt for it and present the EWS reservation cwertificate when asked for.

The application process for UPSC CSE 2019 prelims started on February 19 and the last date to register is March 18, 2019. Candidates are advised to complete their registration (both, Part 1 and 2) as early as possible to avoid last minute rush. A total of 896 vacancies have been announced. The prelims exam will be conducted on June 2.

“They should also be in possession of all the requisite certificates in the prescribed format in support of their claim as stipulated in the Rules/Notice for such benefits, and these certificates should be dated earlier than the due date (closing date) of the application of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2019,” the official notifcation reads.

“Since reservation for EWS category candidates has been notified recently, therefore this extension for submission of certificate for EWS category candidates is a one time relaxation applicable for CSE 2019 only,” it reads further.

Few criteria for EWS

10% EWS reservation quota is given only for the general category candidates.

If your family has a gross annual income below Rs 8 lakhonly, you will be identified as EWSs for benefit of reservation.

Your family should not own or possess agricultural land of size 5 acres or above.

Your family should not own or possess a residential flat of area 1000 sq.feet or more.
