Brisbane funeral home live streams services
One of Queensland's largest funeral companies has begun to live stream services to mourners around the world, with as many as 40 people opting to watch from their devices.
InvoCare, which owns White Lady and George Hartnett funeral homes, launched its eighth Queensland parlour with live streaming services on Wednesday.
Far-flung mourners are able to switch between multiple cameras and even zoom in-and-out during services at the Kelvin Grove parlour.
InvoCare general manager Mandy Penguilly said mourners could even take home a filmed copy of the service, if they wanted to watch it again later.
"We have been offering these services for about three months in Queensland and more and more people are wanting to participate," she said.
"Funerals are part of the healing process so it is important for us to ensure families have options."
Families who opt to live-stream their loved one's funerals are given links and passwords to ensure confidentially.
Ms Penguilly said it was a way for older people unable to travel, and those living far away, to say goodbye.
"People are surprised at first but I think this will become commonplace in the next few years," she said.
